Homero 'Homer' Castillo

Homero "Homer" Castillo, 36, of Othello, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 at the Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane.

Homer was born on July 16, 1970 in Pasco to J. Merced and Maria Liduvina Paz Castillo. During the early years of his life Homer's family worked in agriculture throughout the west and southwest, settling in Othello in 1976. Most of his schooling was done in Othello, but he finished high school and started college in Wilmington, Calif. He returned to Othello in 1988 and in 1990 went to work for McCain Foods. While Homer was in high school he met Elsa Zepeda. Their love for each other grew and in 1995 Elsa and Homer were married.

Homer enjoyed the outdoors, music of all types, going to movies, playing pool and recently had become a golf fanatic. Homer looked forward to the family trip to California every year. His passion was his family; he was a very proud husband and father. He was very active with his daughter's softball and basketball teams. Homer's wife was always first, but he will always be remembered as "mamma's baby boy."

Homer is preceded in death by his father J. Merced, and two brothers Maximino and Jose Castillo. He is survived by his wife Elsa of Othello, mother Maria Liduvina Castillo of Othello; his brothers and sisters; Josefina Castillo of Long Beach, Calif., Rosita Castillo of Othello, Miguel Castillo of Othello, Mercedes Moss of Henderson, Nev., Eufracio "Joe" Castillo of Othello, Sandra Castillo of Othello, Jovita Castillo of Benicia, Calif., Olga Gaxiola of Othello, Noe Castillo of Kennewick and Eric Castillo of Billings, Mont., and his children, Ashlie Celeste and Mia Isabella "Bella" Castillo both of Othello.

A time for final visitation has been set aside on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Stevens Funeral Chapel, beginning at 1 p.m. and ending at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Stake Center on 13th Avenue, in Othello. Open viewing will be from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. with the services starting at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens in Othello.
