Othello overpowers Quincy

OTHELLO — Quincy hung with the Lady Huskies early, but Othello took control of the game when Rachel Mohs hit her third consecutive baseline 3-pointer to put the Lady Huskies up 21-8 with 3:27 to play in the first quarter.

Mohs, who played through the flu to score 16 points for Othello, didn't surprise her coach with the hot shooting streak.

"She's capable of doing it," said Othello coach Doug Boyer. "During a summer tournament, she hit 29 3-pointers in three days."

While Quincy could have easily conceded the game after falling behind by 13, the Lady Jacks battled back, scoring six straight points to get within seven and finishing the quarter down 23-14.

However, as the game progressed, Othello used its significant size advantage to score at will from inside.

"Part of our game plan is to just play inside-outside," said Boyer. While Mohs supplied the outside offense for the Lady Huskies, it was the Walker sisters, Ashley and Allison, who dominated the game from inside.

Allison Walker led all scorers with 24 points, while Ashley had 23 for the Lady Huskies.

"The Walkers played the best game I've seen them play all year," said Boyer. "They really came to play."

Quincy's Allison Schaapman helped the Lady Jacks keep pace early in the second quarter, scoring five of her team-high 13 points during the first four minutes of the period.

Othello put up another run midway through the second quarter, using a steal and layup from Brittney Livingston followed by an Allison Walker basket and a pair of scores from Ashley Walker to take a 37-21 lead with 2:59 to play in the half.

Quincy once again rallied, though, outscoring Othello 8-4 to end the half. During the Lady Jacks outburst, Jordyn Peters scored 4 of her 6 points on the night, and Quincy also got points from Colleen Knodell and Tashia Zamarron.

Othello erased any illusions of a Quincy comeback in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Jacks 16-6 to put the game away.
