Moses Lake takes first in weekend tournament

SPOKANE — The Chiefs placed three champions in the Pacific Northwest Classic over the weekend and took home top honors in the team race with a total of 196 points.

The first championship bout for Moses Lake was at 119, where Gabe Guzman earned a 12-3 major decision over Tyler Cowin of Southridge.

"It was a great match to watch because Gabe just dominated Tyler," said Moses Lake head coach Jamie Wise.

Jordan Hill took home a 135-pound championship after defeating Jeff Croskrey of Central Valley 6-1.

Moses Lake's final championship honor came in the 215-pound bout where Brett Frederickson pinned Tyler Cochran of Central Valley.

Other placers for Moses Lake included: 112 - 5, Tyler Vela; 125 - 5, Matt Palmer; 140 - 2, Cody Hoiness; 160 - 4, Josh Nielsen; 171 - 5, Ty Sainsbury; 189 - 2, John Fackrell; 285 - 6, Tad Harman.

"The kids wrestled awesome this weekend," said Wise. "To have ten placers is great."

Othello also fared well in the tournament with six placers for the Huskies.

103 - 5, Jake Smith; 112 - 4, Ruben Lopez; 119 - 4, Derek Stelter; 140 - 5, Kevin Smith; 145 - 4, Jack Calvert; 285 - 4, Michael Carmona.

Team scores from the weekend were: 196 - Moses Lake; 190.5 - Lakeside; 183.5 - University High School; 156.5 - East Valley; 140.5 - Central Valley; 113.5 - Southridge; 104.5 - Kent Lake; 102.5 - Othello.
