Victim tied up, freed herself

MOSES LAKE — A 48-year-old Moses Lake woman is recovering from injuries sustained after she was robbed in her Moses Lake home Friday afternoon.

The woman answered the door to her residence on Sunburst Court after she heard a knock, according to police records.

Michael I. Meriwether, 22, allegedly forced his way through the door and into the residence, police report. Meriwether allegedly choked the woman and tied her up, Capt. Jim Jenkins said.

While she was bound, he reportedly searched her apartment and eventually fled with a purse.

Once he left, the victim freed herself and called 9-1-1.

Police knew where to find Meriwether because his identity is familiar to the victim, Jenkins added.

He was located at his residence where he was arrested for attempted homicide, kidnapping and robbery in the first degree, reported Jenkins.

A search warrant was obtained to locate the stolen property at his residence.

As of Monday the victim was recovering from her injuries at an unspecified hospital, Jenkins said. Her exact injuries are unknown.

The incident remains under investigation.
