Quincy businesses battle in pingpong
QUINCY — The town of Quincy is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a series of monthly Battle of the Biz competitions.
The first was a pingpong tournament Saturday at Quincy Community Center, which led 17 teams to compete for a trophy.
Representatives of Colstor won first place, while Quincy Valley Medical Center came in second. The final game was 3-0.
Event Coordinator Russ Harrington said he was pleased with the turnout. He estimated 60 people came to support the event.
Teams were two people, who were required to take turns serving and hitting. As teams were eliminated, the remaining teams battled in final rounds for the trophy.
Staci Faw said she and her husband Brian Faw joined the tournament to support their community.
Darrel Van Dyke seemed confident before the game started but didn't make it to the second round.
"We thought we'd be champions of the world, then we're out in the first round," Van Dyke said jokingly.
Kiall Swift said he is new to the community and thought participating in the event would give him an opportunity to meet people. His teammate Tyler Greenwood attributed making it past the first round to luck.
"We just figured it would be fun as a first (Battle of the Biz) event," Greenwood said.
The next event is an 8-ball pool tournament on March 11.
