Roads closed near Big Bend

MOSES L AKE — Access to the south parking lot at Big Bend Community College is restricted for construction to prepare for a new fine arts building.

The restrictions are scheduled to begin Monday or soon after, said Public Information Officer Catherine Holestine. Access from Randolph Road to 28th Avenue and the West parking lot at Wallenstien Theater are being closed off, Holestine said.

The college is eliminating a row of parking behind building 1200.

The closure is part of the construction of a 13,000 square-foot fine arts building, which includes labs for pottery, painting, drawing and computers. The existing building is located next to the welding department.

"Concrete barriers and barricades will be placed at the closure areas," Holestine said. "Please use caution when accessing these areas of campus."

The roads are closed for the replacement of overhead power lines, a water main and a new pathway for electrical service. A roundabout with a center feature is included in the plans.

In January, Vice President for Administrative Services Ken Turner provided a two-year estimate for the closure.

"Hopefully, everything will fall into place and it won't take that long," Turner said.

Turner was unavailable for comment Thursday and Friday.
