Darrel E. Mordhorst

Darrel E. Mordhorst, 81, of Wilson Creek died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born March 12, 1925,to Cris and Clara Mordhorst. In January of 1949 he married Lorraine Nestegard. He spent his entire life working on the family farm in Wilson Creek.

He was an active and devoted member of the Wilson Creek Community. He was a member of the Wilson Creek Presbyterian Church, Wilson Creek City Counsel, and Wilson Creek School Board (39 years). He ran the score clock for basketball and volleyball games at the Wilson Creek High School as well as the State "B" basketball tournament and drove school bus for sports activities. In 2005 the Wilson Creek gymnasium was renamed in his honor. He served as a fire chief for the Grant County Fire District #12 (Wilson Creek) for many years and served as a timer for the Pro-West Rodeo Association.

"Grandpa Darrel," as he was known by kids and adults alike, touched many lives and will be greatly missed. His greatest love was for his family and spending time with each and every one of them.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda and Dallas Kimble, and Julie and John Hubbard; six grandchildren, Jodi and Eric Davis, Dusty and Keeva Kimble, Jason and Kellie Hubbard, Daryl and Jenny Kimble, Jennifer Hubbard, and Jared Hubbard; eight great-grandchildren, Haila, Brayden, Bailey, Paige, Laynee, Tayla, Carson, and Kendra; two sisters, Maxine and Lyle Kerns and Dorthy and Fred Warras.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lorraine and his parents, Cris and Clara.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, and Friday, Feb. 16, at Kayser's Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake. Visitation will also be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 in the Wilson Creek Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Wilson Creek Presbyterian Church. After burial at the Wilson Creek Cemetery there will be dinner at the Wilson Creek School Commons.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Grant County Fire District #12, the Pro-West Crisis Fund, or a charity of the donor's choice.
