No details released on new data center

MOSES LAKE — An Internet search engine Web site confirms it signed a lease for space in Moses Lake, but not much else.

"Ask.com has signed a lease for a portion of an existing building for a new data center in Moses Lake," said Ask.com public relations representative Jennifer Hallett. "The facility is not yet operational, and we have no other details at this time."

In September 2006, Ask.com Vice President of Operations Dayne Sampson confirmed via e-mail his company was scouting locations in Eastern Washington.

"Eastern Washington offers many opportunities for the data center to succeed," Sampson said at the time. "The sound infrastructure, networking capability, close proximity to hydropower and the talented employee base make it an ideal location for Ask.com as we expand the computing infrastructure to support our growing market share."

"I'm pleased to see it come to closure," Grant County Economic Development Council Executive Director Terry Brewer said Monday afternoon. "This is the first data center company we began working with sometime early in 2005. I'm glad to see them settle on Grant County. I think it's going to be a great project."
