COLUMBIA BASIN — Grand Coulee twins Micol and Kyler Pankey have a lot of hair to give.

The two-year-old twins are donating 20 inches of hair to Locks of Love after a haircut Friday at Vicki's Hair Krafter in Moses Lake. Their mother Pam Pankey is sending the hair to the organization, which makes wigs for children suffering hair loss.

"This is the last part of their baby years," Pankey said. "I mean, this is their baby hair."

Micol and Kyler turn 3 on Feb. 22.

Hairdresser Helen Pugh said the boys' haircuts marked her fourth time cutting hair for Locks of Love.

"This is definitely the youngest I've done," Pugh said.

Micol and Kyler's sister Selinnah, 10, said she already misses brushing her brothers' hair.

Pankey said her mother Trudy told her about Locks of Love and the possibility of the twins donating their hair when it gets long enough, so she just let it keep growing. The organization requests donated hair be at least 10 inches long.

She decided to donate the hair to Locks of Love because other children can use the hair, she said.

"This is special hair, so why not give it to somebody that needs it?" she asked. "I could put it in their baby books, but why?"

Because of their hair length, the children started getting hair in their eyes and strangers mistook them for girls. Pankey joked she might not recognize them in the store with their short hair.

About a month ago she underwent a similar haircut for the organization, and she plans to send it along with her sons' hair.
