Quincy's defense harasses Ephrata for CWAC girls victory

EPHRATA - The Quincy Lady Jackrabbits improved their Central Washington Athletic Conference mark to 2-3 on Friday, making the short trip to Ephrata's Marty O'Brien Court for a 37-26 victory over the Lady Tigers.

Quincy got another solid game out of senior guard Tashia Zamarron, who led all scorers with 20 points. Zamarron made just 3 of her 15 field-goal attempts, but redeemed herself with a 13 of 19 performance at the free-throw line. Zamarron also had 10 rebounds and three steals.

The Lady Jacks held Ephrata to four combined points over the second and third quarters, taking a 22-16 lead into the fourth. The Tigers never got much going offensively, as BreAnne Duff was their high scorer with nine points and three steals.

Dayanna Lopez had eight points and eight rebounds for Quincy, with Lesa Hearst adding four points and seven boards.

Ephrata, which remained winless on the season, tries to get things started after the New Year with a 6 p.m. CWAC start at Prosser on Jan. 4. The same night, Quincy will host Othello in another 6 p.m. start.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 46, Moses Lake Christian 42

HARTLINE - The Warriors earned a hard-fought, non-league win over the Lions on Friday, as leading scorer Sarah Gloyn poured in a game-high 20 points.

Breanna Martin and Megan Osborne added eight points apiece for ACH, which improved its record to 3-3 overall, 1-3 Bi-County League.

"Overall, I think the Lady Warriors just out-hustled and out-played the Lions," ACH assistant coach Katie Stephens said. "The score was close, but our team played well and worked well on both offense and defense, so we're happy with this win."

Moses Lake Christian had three players in double figures, but fell behind 11-4 early on and couldn't recover. Heidi Sandberg led the Lions with 11 points, with Chelsea Allsbrook and Kristina Firouzi scoring 10 apiece. Jessica Jachetta added nine points.

The Lions host Bridgeport on Thursday at 6 p.m. to open their holiday tournament. The Warriors travel to Waterville for a 6 p.m. start on Friday.

Othello 80, Selah 56

OTHELLO - The Lady Huskies picked up their second CWAC win of the season on Thursday in convincing fashion, using a 26-10 run in the third quarter.

Othello's Courtney Kirkwood and Selah's Sasha Valdez tied for the game-high with 21 points apiece, but Kirkwood's teammates did much more damage. The Huskies had four players in double figures as Allison Walker poured in 18, Justine Villarreal had 14 and Kylee Mollotte added 10.

Ashley Anaya had 11 points for the Vikings, while Othello's leading scorer, Christine Kirkwood, was limited to nine points.

Othello travels to CWAC rival Quincy for a 6 p.m. start on Friday, Jan. 4.

Soap Lake 40, Wilbur-Creston 35

SOAP LAKE - In a non-league outing on Friday, the Eagles held off the visiting Wildcats by compiling a 22-15 halftime edge.

Ariel Wernex scored 13 points to pace Soap Lake and Chelsea Allen chipped in 11. Tanya Babak and Mercedes Franks scored seven points apiece for the Eagles, who got their second win of the season.

Soap Lake participates in the Davenport holiday tournament this Friday and Saturday.

Lind-Ritzville 69, Odessa 25

RITZVILLE - The Lady Broncos (8-1 overall, 5-1 Bi-County League) remained within reach of Northwest Christian in the league standings, mandhandling the visiting Tigers on Saturday.

Sabrina Saetre had 13 points for Lind-Ritzville, which led 29-15 at halftime and blew things open with a 25-5 run in the fourth quarter. Devon Killian added 10 fro the Broncos, with Laura Cain scoring nine, Cassie Cole scoring eight, and Katlin Fowles and Emmy Bouwman notching seven apiece. Odessa (3-4, 1-4) didn't have a single player in double digits.

The Broncos play at Lacrosse-Washtucna at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers travel to Almira/Coulee-Hartline on Jan. 4.

Lind-Ritzville 55, St. John-Endicott 40

RITZVILLE - The Broncos stepped outside league play on Friday night, downing the visiting Eagles thanks to an early 11-3 push.

Kelsey Arlt scored a game-high 15 points, leading three Lind-Ritzville players in double figures. Devon Killian scored 14 and Katlin Fowles added 11.
