Quincy data center proceeds on schedule

Hiring begins in spring 2008

QUINCY - A Quincy data center is on schedule to be completed in the fall of 2008.

Bruce Eisele, Senior Manager of the Inuit Inc., data center in Quincy, said the structural steel work was completed in the fall.

Intuit first began considering Quincy to house its data center in 2006. The company began moving earth in late May.

"Currently we are in the process of the dry-in, which is where the building becomes weatherproof," he said.

That process is scheduled to be completed by the end of January.

"This is all tracking for it to meet the completion date, which will be this fall," he said.

The company is putting together its staffing plans.

"Hiring is something that will be occurring in the spring," Eisele said. "We're looking at approximately 25 employees. These are a wide variety of positions, because we will be looking for contract security people. We'll also be looking for people to staff our operations center. There's also facility-type positions, a variety that includes technical and nontechnical."

Response from residents has been fantastic, Eisele said.

"Everybody has been very welcoming, we've received a lot of positive comments," he said. "People seem genuinely excited we're coming into the area."

Eisele said he wasn't involved in the initial site selection process, but he believes a variety of factors led to selection of Quincy to house the data center.

"It's a very good climate for business," he said.

DPR-Fortis JV Construction is working on the data center.
