Timofeyev among five to All-State

COLUMBIA BASIN - Five local athletes were selected for inclusion on the All-State soccer and volleyball teams announced on Thursday.

Moses Lake Christian volleyball received the most honors, with junior outside hitter Esther Timofeyev earning first-team status for the 1B classification. Timofeyev led the Lady Lions in kills this season, helping them to a fourth-place finish at the 1B state tournament.

Timofeyev tied for third in voting for the 1B classification's Most Valuable Player, receiving three second-place votes and one third-place vote for 10 points. Middle blocker Shelby Puckett of state champion Tekoa-Oakesdale was first with 22 points, followed by Kristen Peterson of Liberty Christian (11) and Northport's Kaprina Goodwin (10).

Moses Lake Christian senior setter Ashley Cole was also a first-team selection, leading her team in assists. Abby Bangs of Sunnyside Christian was the other first-team setter.

Also in the 1B ranks, Odessa's Jordan Frederick was a second-team selection at libero after helping the Tigers place sixth at state. Wilson Creek sophomore Ksenja Fredere was an honorable mention choice at libero, and also led the Devils in kills this season.

Moses Lake High School senior midfielder Megan Frederick was an honorable mention selection to the 4A All-State soccer team. Frederick was also a first-team selection to the All-Columbia Basin League 4A squad.
