Warden parking ordinance to be enforced

WARDEN - Warden City Council decided Aug. 21 to begin enforcing an ordinance prohibiting parking along Oak Street.

The decision is believed to be causing some commercial truck drivers to back into the business' property, rather than drive forward.

Council expressed concern at previous meetings that the new pavement on First and Oak streets could be damaged by the travel of heavy commercial trucks, loaded with cargo.

At the July 10 meeting, the issue of an ordinance prohibiting parking along Oak Streets was brought to council's attention.

Since the parking ordinance existed before the current council started serving, Mayor Roldan Capetillo expressed concern about drivers never being told.

Councilmember Tony Massa made the suggestion blocks could be placed on the road to keep trucks from parking in off-limits areas as part of the enforcement.

Council agreed to this and to more prominent signage to designate the no-parking area.

A workshop regarding the issue was canceled Aug. 14 due to a lack of quorum.
