Concentric Business Services supports area companies

MOSES LAKE - As a Moses Lake real estate agent, Jason Backus found his jump start.

"I worked for a local real estate company for three, four years and found a lot of the services I provided them were in demand for others," he said. "I didn't feel it would be ethical to provide them for other real estate businesses in town until I went into business for myself."

So Jason Backus and his wife of 11 years, Heide, opened Concentric Business Services in their Moses Lake home Jan. 1.

"The concept behind Concentric Business Services is providing an outsource for a variety of business services, from marketing to technical support and administrative support all under one roof," Jason Backus explained.

The company aims to serve businesses of all sizes in the area.

"If they don't have the particular skills in house, they'll have some place to go," he said.

Business has been busy since opening, Jason Backus said, partly through Heide's connections as a loan provider.

"I enjoy helping other businesses succeed," he said.

"I like just the fact we're building rapport with so many people in town," Heide Backus said.

Lately Jason Backus has found himself offering Web and graphic design, which is his background.

Heide Backus is a lifelong Moses Lake resident, while Jason moved into the area about 14 years ago, when he was stationed with the Coast Guard in George.

The couple met on a blind date.

"Other than business, we've been together every day since our first blind date," Jason Backus said.

"It was supposed to be just friends until he left to go to Portland," Heide Backus recalled.

Jason Backus had simply been looking for a girl to see while he finished his time in George, and expected to return to Portland.

"I guess I was smitten, and she was tolerant," he said, with a laugh.

They have three children.

The Backuses would like to see the business eventually expand to the point where they may take on employees and move outside their home. For the moment, they are doing all the work themselves.

"If I was going to dream wildly, I would like to see franchises of this kind of business in towns all over eastern Washington and beyond," Jason Backus said.

Heide Backus tries to do the typing, while Jason Backus focuses on graphic design and the Web.

"The question was, where do people go if they need business skills instead of hiring a temp?" he said. "If they don't really need that much, where do they go? Well, here we are. If we can't do it, we will figure out a way or find somebody who can."

The business accepts phone calls from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
