Enjoys serving on Othello council

OTHELLO — Incumbent Everett Cole is running for position five on the Othello City Council to continue improving the city.

"I enjoy serving on the council," Cole said. "(In) 27 years, I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly and have been able to help guide the city to success that we enjoy today."

Citizens should vote for him because he understands city government and knows how to use it to benefit the citizens of Othello, he said.

"I do not operate on emotions," Cole said. "Hurried and emotional decisions often bring trouble. I often say look down the road and try to see where this pathway has taken you."

He added he believes his service to the city has been beneficial over the years.

He declined to comment on any challenges he faces running for the council position.

He said he supports anything beneficial to the city and the citizens.

Cole advised a recent large commercial annexation will benefit the city by providing more employment opportunities in the area.

"The city is like a living organism, right now we have enjoyed growth in family type housing, so soon we will need growth in employment opportunities," he said. "To improve the economy we must expand the economic base which will also improve the employment opportunities."

He is interested in creating more activities for youth.

"(The council will) cooperate with all doable requests that will be a benefit to our children or young people," Cole said.

He said he is not sure one person can improve the city by themselves. It takes a teamwork oriented council to make a difference, he added.
