OTHELLO — Incumbent Kathy Carlton is running for position seven on the Othello City Council and wants to continue being a positive voice for the city.

She says she will continue to serve the city while supporting the police and fire department.

"I will work to keep Othello's water and other city systems operating at their highest quality levels," she said.

Carlton advised she is faced with the challenge of deciding whether city water should be provided to developments outside city limits.

"As the city continues to grow I will carefully weigh all the factors involved with this and all the other issues that come before the council," Carlton said.

She said citizens should vote for her because she takes time to learn about the issues put before her.

"I am very pro-growth for Othello," Carlton said. "I do my homework and ask the hard questions that the decisions brought before the city council often require."

She said supporting growth in the city includes supporting the school system and housing.

"The Othello School District has excellent teachers and begins remodeling all of the district's schools this year," Carlton said. "Providing affordable housing will support growth in Othello for years to come."

She wants more diverse retailers to come to the city. She spends time inquiring of businesses to interest them in Othello.

I also encourage small businesses to find a way to be the "first one" in Othello.

She recalls the city lacking a movie theater, massage business and an espresso stand. The city now has all three and the businesses are doing well, she said.

She wants to create youth programs by working with the school district to create a program similar to the now closed Boys & Girls Club.

"It would be nice to have a place to play miniature golf, a games arcade, pool tables or batting cages for kids," Carlton said about an indoor facility.
