MLHS announces next Hall of Fame class

Doumit, Hansen are honorary inductees at Aug. 31 ceremony

MOSES LAKE — Eleven new members to the Moses Lake High School Chief Hall of Fame will be inducted at the Chiefs' season-opening football game.

Honorary inductees Pete Doumit and Chuck Hansen, along with nine athlete inductees, will be enshrined at the Moses Lake-Eastmont game at Lions Field, Friday, Aug. 31, at 7:30 p.m.

Doumit, inducted into the Washington State Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame last year, will join his son, Ryan, in the MLHS Hall. Doumit served 33 years as a teacher, coach and administrator, and his 1999 Moses Lake team is the only high school squad to ever have three players selected in the first two rounds of the Major League Baseball draft.

Athletes to be inducted include Tommy Brice and Mingo DeLeon (Class of 1978); Don "Arkie" Garrett (1950), Jaime Garza, John Zamora and Candace Pitts (2000); Mike Rios (1990); Scott Stanford (1984); and Carl Zamora (1988).

The school began its Hall of Fame in 2000. Previous inductees include BJ Garbe, Eric Beardsley, Dick Deane, Ron Seibel, Tony St. Onge, Jason Cooper and Gary Frey.

In conjunction, the school will hold its annual golf tournament and induction ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 1, at Moses Lake Golf Club.

The golf tournament costs $60 per player or $240 for a team of four. Singles will be assigned to a teem. Entries must be received by Aug. 27. The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, range balls, a barbecue lunch and admission to the induction ceremony.

The tournament is a scramble format, with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Sponsorships are also available for $50 per hole or $25 per cart. More information is available through MLHS athletic director Loren Sandhop at 509-766-2666 extension 2921.
