Maurine I. Curl

Maurine I. Curl, 93, of Othello, died Wednesday April 25, 2007.

Maurine was born on Dec. 24, 1913, in Roswell, N.M. She graduated from high school in Roswell then attended the Salvation Army Officer Training program in San Francisco. After the program Maurine traveled and worked with the Salvation Army. She was stationed in Anacortes, Wash., when she met Ernie Curl. They were married on April 9,1946. They moved to Bellingham where she stayed active in the Salvation Army until moving to Connell in 1989. Maurine moved to Othello in 2000.

Maurine was passionate about her work with the World Gospel Mission.

She was supporting missions, when she could financially, by housing the missionaries and always through prayer. She joined the Connell Church of the Nazarene in November of 1989. Maurine was involved with the Ladies Home League for the Salvation Army. She will be remembered for keeping a spotless home, her ability to sew and her beautiful needle work. She passed on her passion for teaching children to her daughter Shirley. Besides teaching Sunday school most of her life, she was very involved in Child Evangelism, holding weekly after school story time for the grade school children

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ernie, two sisters and a brother. She is survived by her daughter Shirley (Tom) Pence of Lind, Wash., stepson Jerry (Ruth) Curl of Edmonds, Wash., son Bob (Debbie) Curl of Nampa, Idaho, two brothers Brigadier Carl Irby of the Salvation Army in Portland, Ore., and Earl Irby of Hanford, Calif., a sister Ruth Yarbrough of Hanford, Calif., nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 30, at Stevens Funeral Chapel beginning at 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A celebration of Maurine's life will be held at the Connell Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday, May 1, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Mt. View Cemetery in Connell.
