| April 27, 2007 9:00 PM

MOSES LAKE — Connelly Park and the waters of Moses Lake will roar with the sound of racing this weekend, as the American Power Boat Association comes to town with 11 classes of racing featuring drivers from the northwest and around the country.

In addition to a large contingent of Washington drivers, competitors from Illinois, Colorado and Montana are expected to bring their craft to Moses Lake to compete with the regions' fastest boats.

The event, which is sponsored by Papa's Casino and AmeriStay Inn and Suites, is free to the public on both days.

Saturday and Sunday's racing, which open the APBA season, begins at noon each day and concludes around 3:30 p.m.

Among the classes of boats scheduled to race on Moses Lake this weekend are outboard performance boats, inboard hydroplanes and flat bottoms.

Several drivers will be debuting new boats Saturday, with some boats reaching speeds of up to 160 miles per hour.
