Port to discuss selling land

QUINCY — The Port of Quincy holds a meeting this week to gather public comments about possibly selling part of its property.

The port holds a public hearing Wednesday at 5 p.m. to hear comments on whether it should sell property to Seattle-based real estate development and data center company Sabey Corporation, port Executive Assistant Sherry Harrington said. The meeting takes place at the port office at 202 G St. S.E., Quincy.

"They've made an inquiry and we're trying to schedule a joint meeting between the commissioners and the Sabey group," Port Commissioner Brian Kuest said. "We're not far enough along in the inquiry process to know exactly what Sabey's needs are."

Kuest hopes the company would say they're interested in Quincy and port property.

"Can we negotiate a purchase sale based on adequate appraisals?" he said.

"Sabey is looking at land, but I don't think I would go so far as to definitively say looking to purchase land," Sabey spokesman Dave Fisher said. "They are a very active player in the real estate market, and are constantly evaluating property."

Part of the process is to establish a value of the property, Fisher said.

"When you're dealing with a public entity, some of those processes are in fact public processes," he said. "Sabey's been in the real estate business for a long time. One thing which has become abundantly clear over that history is when it comes to real estate deals, there's no done deal until the deal is done.

"There's a lot going on in the market and in North Central Washington, and Sabey is already a player in North Central Washington," Fisher continued when asked why the company is looking in Quincy.

The company made a property purchase in East Wenatchee within the last year, Fisher noted.

The port also holds a bid opening Wednesday at 2 p.m. for the water line for the Intuit data center.
