Chiefs have enough to beat Pasco

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Chiefs hosted a pair of Columbia Basin League tennis matches Saturday and came away with a 4-3 victory over the Pasco Bulldogs.

Moses Lake and Pasco proved to be two evenly matched teams, as they split four doubles matches and the Chiefs earned a 2-1 advantage in doubles play that gave them the victory. Three of four singles matches went three sets, with Moses Lake winning two of those tough matches against the Bulldogs.

In first singles, Ben Nye opened his match with a 6-0 first-set victory, but then dropped his second set 3-6 to Pasco's Skippy Fergen. Nye came back to win the third set 6-3 to give him the victory in the match.

Moses Lake's Tony Holiday came up on the short end of a three-set decision in second singles, losing to Pasco's Brock Schadler 6-2, 3-6, 3-6. Paul Asfour of Moses Lake was beaten 0-6, 5-7 by Pasco's Sterling Swafford in third singles, but Andy Su evened up singles play for the Chiefs with a come-from-behind 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 win in fourth singles over Isaac Westland.

The Chiefs got a pair of straight-sets wins in doubles play. In the number two matchup, David Asfour and Adrian Juarez of Moses Lake won their match 6-2, 6-2 over Pasco's Dennis Goulet and Sol Mandragon. The Chiefs' Cole Atkinson and Connor Lange also won in doubles action, earning a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Blake Correll and Kyle Robinson.

Moses Lake's top doubles tandem of Brent McCaffery and Lars Odegaard lost their match 2-6, 3-6 to Dustin Cardenas and Thomas Fowles.

Earlier in the day, Moses Lake dropped their match with the Richland Bombers 7-0. In the closest match of the day against the Bombers, Moses Lake's David Asfour and Daniel McMains opened their number three doubles match with a 6-3 first set victory, but lost their next two sets 3-6 and 1-6 to drop the match.
