Soap Lake art guild gives free art presentation

SOAP LAKE — A Northwest oil painter returns to Soap Lake this week for a free presentation of his art.

The Art Guild of the Soap Lake Area delivers a free art presentation at the Caffeine Couch, located at 112 S. Daisy St., Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Vice President Al Lundberg said the guild tries to offer an event where an artist creates a work onstage on the third Wednesday of the month about every three months.

"People who cannot only do their art work but also maintain a conversation with the audience, which is fairly unique," he said. "Getting someone who can actually create a piece within the timeframe we have and carry on a good conversation, it's a little rare."

Featured speaker Ethan Jack Harrington does a live-model painting.

"He paints businesses, cars, people, whatever he sees out there which someone wants to record for posterity," Lundberg said. "You see his work more and more throughout the Basin, throughout the state."

Harrington was in town about a year ago and was well-received, Lundberg said.

Lundberg said the organization is finishing up its season at the coffee-furniture business before starting its new season at the Las Brisas Arts and Conference Center, and he felt Harrington was a good fit for a smaller, more intimate site.

"It's one of those things where people basically look over his shoulder and see the creation of the work," he said. "Mr. Harrington is one of those individuals who can interact with an audience, actually, spectators, because when he paints on the street or in a business or something, he is doing the same thing, because everyone walks up and looks over his shoulder."
