Richard James Tenaglia
Richard James Tenaglia of Moses Lake passed away at home on April 9, 2007, following a short illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born May 12, 1929, to parents August Richard and Gertrude Tenaglia in Bellingham, Wash.,the family moved to Moses Lake in 1948, and August and Gertrude established Moses Lake Meat Packing Company. Richard worked there until 1972.
Richard was in the Army from Oct. 4, 1950, to Jan. 12, 1953. He belonged to the 701st, MP Battalion.
He began his firefighting career as a volunteer in 1948, with Grant County Fire District No. 5, and became a full-time firefighter in 1969. In 1972, he was promoted to assistant fire chief and retired from this position in 1991.
He also enjoyed his part-time residence in Yuma, Ariz., where he was active in golf, pool, and shuffleboard, for which he was 2007 president of the Sun Vista Shuffleboard Association.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude Tenaglia; his father, August Tenaglia; his grandson, Arturo Morales Jr.; his nephew, Steve Robinson, his nephew, Jeff Kwasney; and his son-in-law, Bill Hoyt.
Richard is survived by: his sister and brother-in-law, Ester and Paul Kwasney, and their children (son Gary Kwasney and wife Ashley; son Bruce Kwasney and wife Corrine of Oregon, and their children Benjamin and Wesley; and daughter Sharon and husband Jerry Bjorn, and their children Jerry and Tana); his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Richard Kyle, and their children (daughter Pamela and husband Doug Smith of Kennewick, Wash.; son Sam Robinson of Wisconsin; and daughter Susan Maresco, of San Marcos, Calif.); his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Roger Byme of Pinole, Calif., and their children (son Michael Fisher and wife Becky of Vallejo, Calif.; son Joseph Byme of Pinole, Califomia); his daughter and son-in-law Charleen and Bernard Fournier of Fairfield, Calif., and their children (daughter Tabitha and husband Jake Manning of Great Falls, Mont., and their children Kylie and Cody; and daughter Samantha Fournier of Fairfield, Calif.); his son Tom Tenaglia of Moses Lake and his children (daughter Brandy Thompson of Bremerton, Wash., and her children Makayla, Jay and Tyler, son James and his wife Leslie of New York, and their twin sons Tanner and Jordon); his son Don Tenaglia of Puyallup, Wash.; his daughter Donna Hoyt of Moses Lake and her children (son Richard Olson and wife Trisha and his daughter Christian; son Douglas Olson and his children Brittney and Douglas; and son Don Olson and his son Dominick, all of Moses Lake); his great-grandson Arturo Morales III of Pinole, Calif.; and many loving friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 16, at Kayser's Chapel of Memories with Pastor Mark Bassett officiating. Viewing will take place at the funeral home on Monday morning from 8 a.m. until noon.
