Chiefs in middle of tight CBL golf race

Moses Lake golfers place fifth

RICHLAND — The Moses Lake Chiefs finished in fifth place at the third of five Columbia Basin League golf matches Monday, dropping the squad out of a tie for first place in the league points standings.

The Chiefs, who after two events were tied with the Walla Walla Blue Devils and the Wenatchee Panthers with 11 points, now reside in fourth place with 14 points after Monday's match.

In the match held at Richland's Horn Rapids Golf Course, Moses Lake shot a 379 to finish just three shots behind fourth-place Walla Walla. The Pasco Bulldogs, believed by many to be the top team in the league, won its second straight CBL pod match with a team total of 349.

While Pasco claimed sole possession of first place in the league standings, the CBL title is still very much up for grabs with two events to go. Just four points separate the league's top five teams, with Wenatchee a point behind the Bulldogs in second place and Walla Walla two points back in third place.

Cameron Whittle led the Chiefs with an 86 on the par-72 course, good enough for fifth place out of 40 golfers. Whittle remained in the CBL's top five after the event, slipping from fourth to fifth in the individual standings.

Zac McDougall, who entered Monday's match as the CBL's fifth-rated golfer, shot a 95 to finish in a tie for 19th place. Billy Brice had a 97 for Moses Lake, earning him 22nd at Horn Rapids.

Mike Holmes shot a 101 to finish in 26th place, Dylan Moberg fired a 103 to end up in a tie for 28th place and Justin Walker had a 104 to end his day in 30th place.
