Knights let down by defense

ROYAL — Eight errors by the Royal Knights' defense allowed the visiting Omak Pioneers to defeat Royal 14-9 in a non-league baseball game Tuesday.

"We gotta learn how to pick it up and throw it across the field," said Royal coach Rick Mitchell.

Omak scored early and often, piling up 11 runs in the first three innings. Trailing 14-5 in the bottom of the seventh, the Knights rallied for four runs to make things interesting, but could get no closer.

Omak's Darrick Green was a thorn in the side of the Knights' pitching staff, going 3 for 5 with two home runs, a double and five RBIs.

For Royal, Colt Brown was 2 for 4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored. Edgar Montoya was 1 for 2 with a pair of runs scored, and Zach Lewis had a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
