Downtown is making progress

MOSES LAKE — The downtown Moses Lake remodeling project is on time and almost halfway done.

The project started six weeks ago and is scheduled to be completed Dec. 1, Project Engineer Richard A. Law said.

"We are finishing up the underground work on Third Avenue," Law said.

He has come across a few expected speed bumps. The underground infrastructure had to be replaced, he said. It was more than 50 years old. The underground work includes water, power and irrigation.

They are adding curbs, pavement and sidewalks to Division Street in two weeks, he said. In one to six weeks they will be preparing Ash Street by removing old pavement and curbs. He expects there will be some needed underground work there as well.

Executive Director of the Moses Lake Business Association, Sally Goodwin, confirmed everything is on schedule.

The curbing on Third Avenue indicates the four way intersections located on Ash Street and Division Street are near completion. Goodwin has heard many misconceptions about the intersections. They are not going to be round-abouts, she said.

She is looking forward to the end result.

Construction for Sinkiuse Square continues. It will be a park including a community stage and plenty of parking.

"This will make the [area] much more friendly," she said. "It's a people place."

The downtown businesses located along the construction site are doing well, Goodwin said.

Many of the businesses are involved in a Hard Hat Promotion drawing to attract people to come downtown and see the progress being made in person, she said.
