Citizens made a difference

Cans and garbage collected

MOSES LAKE — Citizens all over Moses Lake took the opportunity to make a difference in the community Saturday.

Approximately 500 pounds of aluminum cans were collected, Kerri Richins, event coordinator said. More than 150 people collected 46 cubic yards of litter during the city wide pick-up.

"The town of Moses Lake really stepped forward with volunteers," she said.

One of her favorite moments was seeing donated blankets given to three children afflicted with certain disabilities and sicknesses.

"It was very touching and heartwarming," Richins said. "That sticks out in my mind."

Thirty volunteers from Job Corps gave their time to clean up the city too, Business and Communication Liaison Jennifer Thomas said.

"They took their Saturday and dedicated it to this," she said. "They filled 65 huge bags of garbage as a group."

The group cleaned an area near downtown and McCosh Park, Thomas added.

She was impressed the group donated their time because they did not have to. Many canceled recreational plans to come out and participate in Make a Difference Day, she said.
