Moeses Lake High School offers Trick-or-Treat Night

Event provides warm, safe Halloween spot for kids

MOSES LAKE — Young trick-or-treaters get a chance to stay warm and get candy this Halloween.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Moses Lake High School hosts Trick-or-Treat Night, open to children aged 12 and under.

Science teacher and Associated Student Body Co-Adviser David Kirk said the event allows a safe place for students to trick-or-treat that's warm and out of the weather.

"Each of the groups that want to participate are typically clubs or groupings of students from within the school," he said.

Examples include groups like an ASB class, a freshman group, cheerleaders or Honors Society.

Each of the groups then picks a door within the building.

"We ask parents to follow the flow all the way through the building once and trick-or-treat," Kirk said. "Some of the students will dress up, but it's not required."

At the same time, as a community outreach, the program seeks canned food or monetary donations for the resident food bank.

Kirk said the event has been taking place in the nine years since he arrived at the high school, and potentially a lot longer.

"It's a community outreach piece for our students," he said. "It's a food drive fund-raiser kind of an idea for our community and it allows us to interact with our community, providing a needed service for students who continue to participate and support the Halloween tradition."
