Dan Maine Cox
Dan Maine Cox, 80, went to be with the Lord Oct. 23, 2006, at his winter home in Salome, Ariz.
Dan was born Aug. 8, 1926, to Nelson Levi Cox and Ida Nelli Hamption in Shelley, Idaho. Dan's early years were in the Shelley, Idaho, area and summers were spent at their family ranch at Wolverine.
At the age of 18 he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific. After his discharge in July of 1946, he married his sweetheart, Mary Lou Yorgesen on Oct. 23, 1946, in Darlington, Idaho. They made their first home in Jameston, Idaho. They had homes in Darlington, Idaho, Prosser and Grandview, Wash., before settling in Warden, which has been their home for 53 years.
His occupation as a farmer served him and his family well throughout his lifetime. His accomplishments include being a pioneer in the potato industry in the Warden area. Their union was blessed with five sons, 23 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. He dearly loved his family.
Dan is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Lou, and sons and daughter-in-laws, Danny and Shirley, Steve and Mary, Nelson and Connie, all of Warden, and Jim and Alexa of Salome, Ariz.; one brother, Vern Cox of Mattawa, also survives him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, O.C. (Oscar Carl), a grandson, James Michael Cox, and a great-grandson, Coty LaDell Taylor. Five brothers, Len, Wylie, Adrian, Jay, Ellie and two sisters, Beatrice and Blanche, also precede him in death.
Services will be on Friday, Oct. 27, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Warden. Internment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Warden. Visitation will be on Thursday, Oct. 26, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Kayser's Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake.
