Longtime store expands with warehouse

More space leads to increased selection

MOSES LAKE — There's going to be more space for a Moses Lake business in the weeks ahead.

Easy Home Furnishings is building a 7,500-square-foot warehouse.

"We have our warehouse inside this main building right now," said Will Christensen, president of Easy Home Furnishings. "With the growth of Moses Lake, we decided we needed more space, so it'll actually give us an additional 5,000 square-feet of show floor."

Crews were working on the roof last week, at which point Christensen estimated several weeks time before the warehouse opens. The main building will be remodeled within a month as well.

The warehouse facility sits 20 feet away from the main building. They are not connected.

President since taking over the business in 1999, which was started by his wife's grandfather as a video rental store, Christensen said the business has been in operation in Moses Lake, its lone location, for 25 years.

"Back then we used to rent VCRs, and it just grew from there," he said. "I think the rental part of it was a big thing. I think it was a natural progression. Now we have financing, we do sales and the rent-to-own, so we try to have something for everybody."

A warehouse allows the company to keep and stock more products to serve customers, he said.

"That was the reason we decided to do it in the first place," he said. "To better serve our customers."

The warehouse was in discussion for several years, he added, but the time between the actual decision and the warehouse's creation was "relatively short."

"We've seen the growth and we know of a few things that are happening or going to happen, that made us decide now's the time," Christensen said.

The company has had several locations in the past, he continued, and it will be the second time the main building property has seen an expansion.

"Of course, you're in business to make money, but from my standpoint, I've got 10 employees that depend on me doing my job and keeping customers here," he said. "But our main goal is to provide customers with a specific service, and to do that better than anybody else."

The number of employees will probably increase as well, Christensen said, noting the outlook is "very good" for the business in the future.
