Fleetwood Homes hosts an early Halloween
Businesses can sign up to decorate a home, pass out candy
MOSES LAKE — Children better prepare their costumes early this year, if they want to get all the candy they can.
Fleetwood Homes is hosting a trick-or-treat opportunity amongst their manufactured homes October 30, the night before Halloween. Businesses can sponsor one of 11 homes by decorating a display home and passing out candy to children.
Assistant Manager of Fleetwood Homes Luanna West said last year, 2,500 pounds of candy were given away to an estimated 2,000 to 2,500 children. The event is from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at 1211 West Broadway Ave. The event lasts until the candy or time runs out.
"It's nothing but wall-to-wall kids for the full two hours," West said.
Company employees are passing out candy from the trunks of their cars at the event, calling it "trunk or treat." Kids can play games in one of the homes, including a cake walk.
"We do it the night before so we don't infringe on any organized family activity that may be going on," West said. Holding the event early also prevents it from imposing on other activities in Moses Lake, she said.
For the adults, Fleetwood is hosting a raffle Oct. 31 to raise money for the American Little League of Moses Lake. Items being raffled include restaurant gift certificates, hotel stays and vehicle tune-ups. All proceeds go to the organization.
West said Fleetwood appreciates candy donations for the event, but to sponsor a home, businesses only need to supply the decorations. Local dentists donate toothbrushes for the children's candy bags, and candy is paid for through donations and the company.
The event provides a safe location for children to trick-or-treat, West said.
"Nobody is going to be selling that night," West said of Fleetwood. "We're just all going to be having a good time."
Those wishing to sponsor a home should contact the company by October 20.
