Leeloyd Pearce

Leeloyd Pearce, 82, longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006 at Samaritan Hospital.

Memorial services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Kayser's Chapel of Memories.

Leeloyd was born June 22, 1924 in Clever, Mo., to Alvie and Grace (Boyts). He attended school there until he was 10 years old and then moved to Visalia, Calif. They purchased a dairy, he milked cows while attending high school taking the milk to the creamery on the way to school. He graduated from Visalia Union High School in 1943. While in high school he was on the track team.

He served in the Army Air Force and was discharged in 1946. He returned to the dairy and became a partner with his father.

In 1953 he married Linnette Williams. In 1961, Leeloyd and his family, along with his parents, moved to Moses Lake and purchased the Farm-In-A-Day. He remained a dairyman until ill health forced him to sell in 1990 and they remained in the same area.

He was a member of the Over the Hill and Merry Mixer dance clubs and enjoyed performing with his guitar and singing at several community events. He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

Leeloyd was active in several dairy organizations including serving on the Northwest Dairyman's advisory board, All-West advisory board, DHIA, lifetime member of the Holstein Association. He served on the Grant County Fair Association's sales committee. For many years he showed cows at the county fair and provided several pieces of equipment for the dairy barn at the fair grounds.

Leeloyd was a Cougar Club member and enjoyed the home games in Pullman, and a Mariners fan, watching them on TV.

Survivors include his wife, Linnette; daughter Melba Fujiura and spouse Ray, and Debbie Rochefort and spouse Barry, grandsons Pearce Fujiura and Gabriel Rochefort, several nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Grace and Alvie, and his brother Armel.
