Glen Mizer, 84, of George, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.

Glen was born in Milton, Ore., and grew up in Kennewick, graduating from KHS in 1940. He was a student at Washington State University for two years until he enlisted in the US Navy in 1942. While at WSU he met Marilyn Larsen, who became his wife in 1946.

During WWII he served on a troop transport in the Pacific Theater, seeing action at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. His ship was present at Tokyo Bay next to the Missouri when the treaty with Japan was signed.

After being discharged, he began the rest of his life as a farmer, first in Kennewick, then moving to the Skagit Valley for 18 years. In 1972, he moved to the Columbia Basin and had a farming partnership with his two sons for 15 years.

In 1986, he "somewhat retired" and spent the next 20 winters as an "Arizona snowbird." He enjoyed traveling in their RV, spending time with friends and being with his family.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Kennewick Valley Grange. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; one son, Mark, of George; one brother, Quentin, of Mesa, Ariz., two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, one nephew, two nieces and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m., in the Quincy Free Methodist church. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Gideons.
