Quincy standoffends peacefully
Suspect reportedly assaults officer
QUINCY — A three hour standoff between a man suspected of assaulting a police officer and the Quincy Police and the Grant County Tactical Response Team ended peacefully.
Joseph Floyd Mata, 31, was arrested this morning at roughly 7 a.m. for third degree assault, resisting arrest, escape in the third degree, attempting to disarm a police officer and two arrest warrants, after surrendering to police, according to Quincy Police Chief Bill Gonzales.
The incident began when a Quincy Police officer contacted Mata to arrest him for two outstanding warrants, acctording to Quincy Police. Mata reportedly walked away from the officer.
"The officer pursued Mata and the two fought for several minutes until Mata broke free and ran away," Gonzales reported.
The officer followed Mata to a residence on G Street Northeast, where a perimeter was created with help from the Grant County Sheriff's Office, according to Gonzales. The Tactical Response Team was activated to assist in the arrest.
Three hours later, officers took Mata into custody. Mata was reportedly uninjured and booked into the Grant County Jail, according to Quincy Police.
The Quincy Police officer received minor injuries and did not require treatment.
