Douglas Everett Anderson
In August, 1954 Douglas E. Anderson and Donald White left to join the U.S. Marine Corps. Their departure was announced along with a picnic to send them off to serve our country.
Doug graduated from Ephrata High School, Class of 1954, where he served as senior class president, played baseball and played in the band. The 1954 Tiger was filled with unbridled optimism mixed with an innocence bred of small town America.
Doug returned to Ephrata many times over the years, but in one sense, he never really left. The values of this town followed him for 52 years. His deep appreciation of automobiles grew from working with Earl Sellick at the filling station. His love of our country grew from the civic pride exhibited in the parades, football games and picnics he was raised with in Ephrata. His love of family is a result of his own parents' devoted 60 plus years together.
Doug lost his fight with lung cancer just three days short of his 71st birthday on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006. He is survived by Claire, his wife of 44 years, his brother Jim and sister Carla, son Steve and daughter Beth, five grandchildren, and countless people who will miss the twinkle in his eye and the warmth of his heart.
Ephrata, we thank you for all you gave Doug, and in turn all he gave the world.
In Loving Memory of Douglas Everett Anderson
