Sgt. Lucas T. White

Sergeant Lucas T. White was killed in action on Nov. 6, 2006, in Baghdad, Iraq. A proud member of the U.S. Army since August of 2001, Sgt. White had also served in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom from July 2003 to April 2004, as part of the 10th Mountain Division.

Born in Yakima to Mervin White and Julia Brooks, Sgt. White spent his childhood in Pendleton, Ore., and White Swan, Wash. He graduated from White Swan High School in 1998. Sgt. White subsequently moved to Moses Lake, where he was to meet his future wife Jennifer Leigh. Lucas and Jennifer had been married for over two years at the time of his passing.

Surviving Lucas are his spouse, Jennifer White; mother and stepfather, Julia and Lyle Brooks; siblings, Marcus Ramos, Seth Brooks Nathaniel Brooks and Melissa Brooks; grandmothers, Patsy Durfee and Yvonne Malatare; and grandfather Edward James; and his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Also surviving are Jennifer's father, Sam T. Leigh III., and mother, Judy Robinson-Leigh of Moses Lake.

Visitation for friends and family with Sgt. White will be at Benson Family Funeral Service, 104 W 5th Avenue, Moses Lake, on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. Additional viewing will take place following the funeral service. The family wishes to express that this service will be open to everyone in the community who wishes to attend. At 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, the U.S. Army will hold a memorial service in honor of Sgt. Lucas T. White at Fort Lewis at the Main Post Chapel. A Traditional Yakama Nation Longhouse Service at the White Swan Pavillion will be held Friday, Nov. 17, starting at Sundown (4:29 p.m.) and lasting through Sunrise on Saturday. The public is welcome to attend this ceremony and pay their respects to Sgt. White. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on Nov. 20 at 2 p.m.
