MOSES LAKE - Four swimmers swam the preliminary rounds of the 4A state swim meet today.

"Our goal is always to swim our best times and keep improving," said Moses Lake head coach Tony St. Onge. "If we improve during big meets we move up spots."

Two individual swimmers and two relay teams qualified for the meet after a trip to the district swim meet two weeks ago.

"We've done everything we can to prepare. We've worked on relaxation and visualization; we've worked on swimming fast; and all I can say is that other teams better watch out," said St. Onge. "We're good to go."

Catherine Polito is ranked 12th in the state in the 100 freestyle and 18th in the 100 backstroke.

Stephanie McFarland is ranked 24th in the 200 individual medley and qualified for the state meet after swimming what St. Onge called a "big" district swim.

The 200 medley relay team made up of Polito, McFarland, Marielle McKean and Ashley McKean is ranked 21st in the state. The 200 freestyle team made up of the same swimmers is ranked 15th.

"Catherine is a freshman, Stephanie is a third year state qualifier as a junior and the McKeans are state veterans," said St. Onge.

The individuals and teams competed for a top eight finish during Friday's meet to ensure a place in the chamionship swim Saturday.

Competitors that place 9th through 16th will swim in the consolation finals, also on Saturday.

Moses Lake's alternates are Annalee Bassett, Cari Cortez, Hannah Grigg and Reilly Hourigan.

"State is what it's all about," St. Onge said.
