Third data center coming to Quincy

Intuit addresses city council

QUINCY — Software company Intuit hopes to build a data center on 63 acres of land on Road 11 in Quincy.

Intuit Real Estate and Advanced Planning Manager Michael C. Gulasch came before the Quincy City Council Tuesday night to answer questions.

Gulasch agreed to comply with a few changes the council was concerned with.

He came before the council because Intuit, the city, the county and the Port District are all involved with the development agreement. The council needed to know what Intuit would agree to and what they planned on doing during the preliminary stages of the decision making and permit obtaining process.

Intuit will make progress payments, he said. Originally the company was going to reimburse the city for development costs after construction completion. Gulasch said the company would also agree to pay engineering fees and extensions to city water and sewer lines.

To conclude the land purchase for a data center, the land must be included within the Quincy Urban Growth Area. To be included in the growth area, Intuit submitted an application to Grant County to rezone the development site as an industrial site, Intuit Vice President David Merenbach noted.

The company hopes to locate a data center on a 63 acre site near Road 11. Construction is expected to begin in early 2007, Gulasch said.

Intuit creates software programs such as Quicken and Turbo Tax.
