MOSES LAKE — 'Tis the season, once again, for the downtown area, as decorations go up Friday morning.

Moses Lake Business Association Executive Director Sally Goodwin said in the construction area and the newly developed area, all decorative poles will have wreathes, and trees along the street will have lights. Decorative lampposts in the rest of the area will have wreathes and banners as has been decorated in the past.

"We just want to make the new part of downtown really special," she said. "So it's going to be multi-lights."

Qwest and Northland Cable are donating trucks to help with banners and wreathes and Genie Industries is helping put lights in the trees on Third Avenue, Goodwin said.

The business association is looking for a minimum of eight to 10 volunteers to help decorate.

Special lighting ceremonies are set for Nov. 17 and Dec. 1.

The November ceremony is a holiday open house to show off the new downtown area and kick off the holiday for merchants, Goodwin explained.

"We're looking for a very good season," she said. "It should be a much more festive atmosphere. There will be more lights. It's going to be a lot more pedestrian-friendly."

The event runs between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.. and offers music, entertainment, hot cider and a tree lighting at 6 p.m.

The December event is the annual agricultural appreciation lighted Christmas parade and Third Avenue street party.

"We're encouraging everybody to come downtown and see the new goods, the new streets and trees and everything, and take advantage of this community that we're building with this pedestrian atmosphere," Goodwin said.
