Janet (Marchand) Turner
Janet Turner, age 65, of Hartline, a lifelong Grant County resident, passed away at Sunbridge Care Center in Moses Lake on Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, following a battle with liver disease.
She was born August 20, 1941, in Omak, to the late Cecil and Irene (Smith)Marchand. She attended Moses Lake High School.
On June 18, 1955, she was united in marriage to Leroy (Roy) Turner in Coeur d'Alene. Together, they raised four children, and experienced an adventurous life, celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2005.
Janet and her family lived in several Grant County communities, including Moses Lake, Ruff, and Warden. Janet and Roy settled in Hartline in the 1980s, where Janet opened the Bread Basket, a general store which provided provisions for the citizens of the Hartline area, until illness forced her to close the store in 2001.
Janet enjoyed many hobbies and crafts including collecting porcelain dolls, spending time with her family, and traveling. Janet was always looking for ways to help others in need, and on many occasions would welcome a wayward soul into her home, offering them shelter from the elements and giving them a hot, home-cooked meal.
Janet is survived by her husband, Roy; her daughters and their husbands: Trudy and Kyle Foreman of Ephrata; Terry and Randy Burress of Moses Lake; Tracy and John Gunning of Davenport; and a son and his wife: Troy and Kathleen Turner of Kenmore; nine grandchildren: Adam Ramm of Seattle; Rick, Shelly, Andrea, and Eddie Burress of Moses Lake; Jarod and Joey Gunning of Davenport; and Alex and Rachel Turner of Kenmore; a sister, Joanne Hochstatter of Moses Lake; and a brother, Jim (Cheryl) of Ruff.
She is further survived by her dear friends David and Karen Sullivan of S.C.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one grandchild, Jackson Gunning.
A family and community celebration of Janet's life was held Monday, Nov. 6 at the Hartline Community Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Strate Funeral Home, Wilbur.
For their dedication, compassion and care, Janet's family extends their thanks to Dr. Irene Kimura, Dr. Steven Goodell, the staff of Sacred Heart Medical Center, and the staff of Sunbridge Care Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Janet's name to the Hartline Fire Department Aid Unit, or the Coulee City Ambulance.
