Quincy port awarded $840,000 grant

Hastings to present check Wednesday

QUINCY — The Port of Quincy was recently awarded an infrastructure grant from the Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration, or EDA.

Over a year ago, the port applied for the grant in cooperation with the City of Quincy and the Big Bend Economic Development Council because the existing water system in the northeast section of Quincy did not provide sufficient service to one of its key industrial parks, and did not provide adequate water flow to a number of existing businesses and residences in the area.

The EDA grant award of $840,000 will allow the port and city to construct approximately 11,000 feet of water main so the port can complete the necessary water infrastructure for its Industrial Park No. 4, where Columbia Colstor is currently constructing a 250,000-square-foot cold storage warehouse and distribution facility, and where Yahoo! plans to construct a new data server storage facility.

Congressman Doc Hastings, R-4th District, and EDA Regional Administrator Leonard Smith will be in Quincy on Wednesday to present the EDA check to the Port of Quincy for the grant.
