Barbara Mae Allred Bowen
Barbara Mae Allred Bowen, 84, longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at her home.
Barbara was born on February 19, 1922 in Lorenzo, Idaho to Coral (Carl) Allred and Anne Foster Taylor. Barbara lived in Lorenzo and Rexburg, Idaho until her graduation from Rexburg High School in 1940. She attended beauty college in Idaho Falls, then worked at an Idaho Falls newspaper, The Post-Register. She met her husband, Paul Austin Bowen, during her time there.
Barbara and Paul were married in Idaho Falls, Idaho on July 4, 1942. They resided in Rigby, Idaho and in Jackson, Wyo. where they operated several businesses until 1952 when they moved to the Columbia Basin. From 1960 to 1966, they rented out their farms in the Basin and lived in Missoula, Mont. They then moved to their property in Basin City. In 1974, Paul and Barbara moved to their farm sites east of Moses Lake on 1 SE and 2 SE.
Barbara is survived by her dear husband of 64 years, Paul A. Bowen; her sister Shirley Empey of Basin City and her brother Paul Allred of Lorenzo, Idaho. She is also survived by three sons and their wives: Bruce and Leah Bowen of Moses Lake, Dwight and Kathy Bowen of Ritzville and Kevan and Irene Bowen of Moses Lake. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren including Bruce's sons and their families: Monte and Christine Bowen, Shawn and Becky Bowen of Moses Lake, David and Marla Bowen of Post Falls, Idaho and James and Suzanna Bowen of Boise, Idaho; Dwight's children and their families: Paul W. Bowen and Stephanie and Eric Barrows of Dallas, Mark Bowen of Seattle and Lindsay Bowen of Eugene, Ore.; Kevan's children and their families: Paul G. and Samantha Bowen of Ritzville, Amy and Dave Stites of Dayton and William, Matthew, Andrew, Kayla, Richard and Casey Bowen at home.
Barbara loved her husband and family dearly. She was a kind person who thought the best of everyone. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many church callings throughout her life.
The family will greet friends at Kayser's Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake, where viewing will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2006. The family will also greet friends at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Moses Lake Stake Center, 1515 S. Division Street in Moses Lake with Bishop Reid Baker of the Moses Lake 6th Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, County Road, Warden.
