Ephrata slides runners past Grandview

EPHRATA — The Lady Tigers of Ephrata hosted Grandview in front of a small but faithful crowd Tuesday. Ephrata was looking to advance in the playoffs and take on East Valley Thursday.

The Lady Tigers got their wish.

"My girls looked ready to play today," said Ephrata head coach Heather Wood. "When we come out ready to play, good things happen for us."

Both teams were scoreless through two but in the bottom of the third Ephrata opened up a 4-0 lead and never looked back holding Grandview for a 10-0 shutout victory.

Ephrata's first run came on a bunt that would have been a single were it not for Grandview's trouble fielding the hit. Holly Hubbard laid the hit down right in front of the plate and rounded second before Grandview got a grip on the ball. Hubbard's hit sent Lea Dilling home after a single got Dilling on base.

The Lady Tigers continued to bring runners around with Holly Nelson earning a single on another Grandview error. Nelson's at bat advanced Hubbard to third.

Hubbard slid home on a wild pitch during Tonya Joe's at bat. Joe was walked and gave Ephrata a two on, one out situation.

Nelson and Joe both came in on wild pitches during K.K. Bossert's turn at the plate to end the scoring run for the inning.

Ephrata scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth after two three up, three down sides for Grandview.

The second scoring burst for the Lady Tigers began with back-to-back singles for Nelson and Joe.

Bossert earned two RBIs sending both Nelson and Joe home on a long triple to left field to make it 6-0.

Tia Riggs was tagged out at first but not before Bossert was able to cross the dish for the final run of the inning.

The bottom of the sixth saw three more runs for the Lady Tigers and an end to the game for Grandview.

Dilling hit a lead-off single for Ephrata and rounded second on a wild pitch during an at bat by Lauren Lynch. Lynch was tagged out at first but advanced Dilling to third.

Hubbard scored the first run of the inning for the Lady Tigers, hit a line double to left-center and bringing Dilling home.

Nelson then had a loop single to center field to get on base for Ephrata and set up the final two runs of the game.

Joe scored Hubbard and advanced Nelson to second before recording the second out of the side for the Lady Tigers.

With Nelson in scoring position, Bossert lined up at the plate. Nelson stole third on a wild pitch from Grandview and came home on a single shot by Bossert to end the game.

The Lady Tigers will spend today preparing for the East Valley game tomorrow.

"East Valley is a tough pitching team. They have very sound defense," Wood said. "So, we'll look to be very aggressive batting."
