Louis Bayer

Louis Bayer, 100, longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away Saturday, May 13 at LakeRidge Special Care Center. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 22 at Kayser's Chapel of Memories with Pastor Floyd Wilks officiating. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel and Crematory, Moses Lake.

Louis was born Jan. 12, 1906 in Bellingham, son of the late Louis and Mary Bayer. He was raised and educated on Waldron Island. He was married to Colina McLeod in the late 1920's in Bellingham. He worked on the mail boats in the San Juans before moving to Bellingham where he worked in the shipyards and as a bus driver/mechanic for the Ferndale School District. He also farmed in Bellingham. Louis retired from the Ferndale School District in 1969 and he and Colina moved to Moses Lake. He farmed in the Moses Lake area for almost 20 years before completely retiring. He and Colina loved to travel in their motor home.

Louis was a member of the North Bellingham Grange and the Good Sam Club.

He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law Bill and Joyce Bayer, Bellingham, John and Darlene Bayer, Sumas, and Bob Bayer, Moses Lake; two daughters and one son-in-law Barbara and Jim Hamilton, Moses Lake and Darlene Bayer, Spokane; one brother Jim Jackson, Leavenworth; five grandchildren and two granddaughters-in-law Bruce, Kerri, Shawna, Jennifer, Mike and Krista Hamilton and Teresa Hamilton; 12 great-grandchildren, including Jordan and Holli Hamilton, Taylor Hamilton and Derek Hamilton, all of Moses Lake and two great-great-grandchildren Baylee and Harlee of Moses Lake.

Besides his parents, Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Colina, in 1995, five sisters and one brother, and one grandchild, Craig Hamilton in 2000.
