National honor for former Chief of sports
SPOKANE VALLEY — The Washington Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame will induct six individuals with significant ties to wrestling into the Hall of Fame Saturday in Spokane Valley.
One of those six inductees is former Moses Lake High School athletic director Jim Adamson.
Adamson, now in his 80s and living in Leavenworth, helped begin the Moses Lake High School wrestling dynasty in the early 1950s and started the State A Tournament, serving as its director.
Moses Lake High School won their first of three straight state titles in 1959 under Adamson's athletic program and would win five more before his retirement after 25 years as the athletic director.
Adamson graduated from Chehalis High School as a multi-sport athlete in 1940 and served in World War II from 1943 to 1946. He graduated from Central Washington University in 1948 where he was a member of the varsity basketball team for four years and was president of the Student Government Association. Adamson then taught in Leavenworth for three years before moving to Moses Lake.
Adamson was director of the State A Tournament for 18 years and was active in a number of associations, including the WIAA Wrestling Committee.
Adamson married his wife Carol in 1947. They have three sons, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The induction ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. with a reception at the Mirabeau Park Hotel in Spokane Valley, 1100 N. Sullivan. Tickets are $30.
