K. Jeanette Heinbaugh
This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.
— Psalm 118:24
K. Jeanette Heinbaugh, 93, longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away Sunday, May 7 at LakeRidge Special Care Center. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 10 at the United Methodist Church in Moses Lake, 746 Ironwood Drive, with Pastor Steve Rice officiating. Internment will precede the services at Pioneer Memorial Gardens.
Jeanette was born on July 19, 1912 in Souris, N.D. to Frederick Tracey and JoAnna (Hoopman) Thomas. She was the oldest of four siblings. Her father passed away in 1918, a victim of the flu epidemic. She graduated from high school at age 15, and after finishing one year of college in Spearfish, S.D., she worked in Belle Fourche, S.D. as a stenographer for U&I Sugar, where she met Paul Heinbaugh, who also worked at U&I. They married on December 30, 1933 in Sturgis, S.D. Together they raised three children. They moved to Chinook, Mont. in 1944, and then to Moses Lake in 1953, with the construction of the sugar factory. They bought a farm in 1956, where they enjoyed 12 years of farming on Block 40. She worked as a bookkeeper at Snead Tractor until she retired after 25 years in 1979. Jeanette was a very generous woman who was active in her church and community and had a wonderful circle of friends. She was a member of PEO, was active with the United Methodist Women and was involved in AARP. In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling to Europe, and was an enthusiastic student in David Wolf's classes for 10 years. She was an avid bridge player, an impressive crossword puzzle solver and she loved to read and cook.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul, who passed away in 1978; daughter Jo Ann, who passed away in 1992; brother Tracey Thomas; and sister Leah Byrd. She is survived by many loving family members including her son Tony (Jo Ann) of Fargo, N.D.; daughter Carol (Walt) Reiber of Yakima; sister Irene of Sun City, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews, including Kathy (Ron) Issac and family (Moses Lake); seven grandchildren: Theresa (Rob) Houghton (Murphys, Calif.), Peter Ballaine (Seattle), Andrew (Leticia) Reiber (Selah), Ericka (Scott) Clark (Selah); Monika Heinbaugh (Boulder, Colo.); Amanda Heinbaugh (Washington, D.C.); Michele (Ray) Anderson (Washington, D.C.), and eight great-grandchildren.
Many thanks for the loving care she received at Hearthstone and Lake Ridge and to Dr. Hart. A special thank you to Anne Ballard of Moses Lake. Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church or the favorite charity of the donor.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Kayser's Chapel and Crematory, Moses Lake.
