David A Keil, 59, of Soap Lake, died at his home on Fairway Drive on Monday, May 15 after a battle with Prostate Cancer. Dave was born August 31, 1946 in Huron, S.D. to Morgan Keil and LaVerna Roher. He moved with his parents to Everett when he was two years old. He enlisted in the Army after graduating from Cascade High School and served in Vietnam as crew chief of a helicopter gun ship. After he was discharged, Dave worked for Rainier News in Everett for 23 years before moving to Ephrata in 1992. He then worked for General Dynamics in Moses Lake. He established many friendships while working for both companies. He was also an avid golfer, fisherman and bowhunter enjoying many evenings around the campfire with some of his closest friends.

Man arrested after setting fire to vehicle

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake police arrested a man after several witnesses allegedly saw him pour gas into a vehicle at the intersection of Nelson Road and Pioneer Way, and set fire to it Sunday at about 8:22 p.m. The four-door 1990 Chevrolet Corsica had been reported stolen by a woman who had purchased it from the suspect several days beforehand. The suspect fled to the area of Highway 17 and Interstate 90, where he was located.

Betty Louise McKeever Ostrander, beloved mother, sister, and friend, succumbed to cancer May 12, at the age of 79. She was born in Norwood, Col., June 3, 1926, and grew up in Grand Junction and Boulder. She relocated to Moses Lake in 1955 and made it her home. She is survived by her children: Daniel New Ostrander and his wife Tula, Susan Ann Osborn and her husband Chuck, John William Ostrander and his fiancee Katy Stangeland and Bonnie Ruth Gosline and her husband Jim. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jeremy, Allison, Haley, Kyle, Lisa, Lindsay and Wilmon; and her great-grandchildren; Thia, Samuel, Ella and Emilia; and by her brother Charles McKeever and his wife Shirley. A graduate of Boulder High and the University of Colorado, Betty, a registered medical technologist, devoted many years to her profession as laboratory director of Samaritan Hospital and later as an elected member of the Samaritan Healthcare Board of Commissioners. She was an avid gardener, bridge player and an all around good sport. She loved her family dearly. Betty will be missed by all who were graced to know her. Kelsey Golden Brown passed away May 12 after a skiing accident in Reno, Nev. Born October 5, 1978 in Provo, Utah, he is the fourth child of Dr. Doyle and Jeanne Brown. He was a graduate of Moses Lake High School, Big Bend Community College and received his bachelors degree in psychology from Boise State University. From 1998 to2000, he served a mission to the Netherlands for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Skiing was his life's passion, and he was happiest at the top of a snow-covered peak. Kelsey's bright smile, quick wit, and infectious laugh brought many wonderful friends into his circle. His zeal for life served as an inspiration to those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.

Monte Holm passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 in Moses Lake. Born May 13, 1916 in Clarkston, Monte was the fifth child of Nels and Gertrude (Hunhammer) Holm. Monte's life was unique in that growing up in times of hardship, the Great Depression, World War II, he experienced far greater adventures than most men. Leaving home at 13 years of age, Monte forged a life that included herding sheep in Montana, living the "hobo" life for six years, riding the rails throughout the country, serving in the U.S. Army during WWII and etching a golden career as a scrap/junkman in Everett and Moses Lake. His hard work, love of life and a constant concern for his friends, endured Monte to all who met him. "I've never had a bad day," was his favorite saying, and the gift of Werther's hard candy to all he met was Monte's signature greeting.

Nearly 250 people took part in the fifth annual cleanup day Saturday in Moses Lake. Spread out over 25 miles of road, volunteers filled approximately 400 garbage bags worth of trash on roadsides from Patton Boulevard to Interstate 90. In addition to volunteers collecting litter, water trucks spent the morning washing sidewalks downtown. Approximately 50 pounds of aluminum cans were collected to benefit the Moses Lake Cancer Foundation. Lakeside Disposal garbage crews later hauled away the trash to their Moses Lake facility. Following their cleanup, volunteers were treated to lunch catered by Michael's On The Lake. Vision 2020 organized the event with help from The Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce, Moses Lake Business Association and the Moses Lake-Othello Association of Realtors.
