MOSES LAKE — Big Bend Community College hosted Yakima Community College Wednesday and swept the Yaks two games to none.

The first win for the Vikings came in spectacular fashion in the bottom of the tenth inning.

Kyle Wright was the lead off batter for Big Bend and stepped to the dish with a 5-5 tie ballgame. Wright stared down the first pitch and sent it sailing over the fence in left field to give the Vikings the win.

"It was a good two to win," said Big Bend head coach Don Lindgren. "I told Kyle that's the first game winning home run I've ever been involved in."

Earlier in the game, the Vikings went into the bottom of the sixth tied 1-1 after an early solo homer to score the first run.

In the sixth Christian Romple was sent to first after being hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a bunt single by Wright.

Two batters later, Sean Heary doubled to drive Romple and Wright home and break the tie.

Kyle Renz was the next batter for Big Bend. His hit started out as a base hit but earned a fielding error for Yakima to become a double and earn a run, sending Heary across the dish.

The Vikings ended the inning up 4-1 on the Yaks.

"We hit well but right at people," Lindgren said.

On the next at bat Wright singled to send Blake Wickstrom home for the Vikings' fifth run of the game.

In the top of the eighth, the Yaks scored three runs and scored the game tying run in the top of the ninth on a line single to center.

"Travis Pendleton pitched seven great innings," Lindgren said. "Brian Parker, one of our starters, came in and closed well. He'll be starting Saturday."

The second game of the double-header took the regular nine innings and was a 4-2 win for the Vikes.

Big Bend's Dane Riner singled to begin the batting order and went to second on Jameson Lange's at bat.

Mike Cooley stepped to the plate and drilled a triple to center that brought Riner home and gave the Vikes the first run of the game.

With Cooley at third, Romple doubled to left for the RBI and made it 2-0 before a pop out by Wright ended the inning.

The Yaks struck back in the top of the second, scoring one run on a sloppy single.

In the top of the fourth, Yakima scored again to tie the game at two, on a solo homer.

Big Bend answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Billy Rigsby singled in the lead-off spot to set up an RBI by Wright. Wright's ball began as a base hit but evolved into a triple with aggressive running by Wright.

Ryan Bernsen had the final RBI of the double-header, getting tagged out on a sacrifice bunt but still giving Wright enough time to cross the dish for the victory.

"We were agressive running the bases in that second game," said Lindgren. "We made some good breaks and scored Rigsby from first."

John Tyler finished Yakima off from the mound, going nine up, nine down in the final three innings of the game.
