Chiefs suffer through perfect Richland game

MOSES LAKE — The Chiefs battled back from a deficit to lose the second game of their double-header against Richland 9-8.

The first game was the kind of game coaches dream about. However, the coach basking in the first game was Richland's as his returning state champion pitcher, Jeremy Stumetz, pitched a perfect game. Moses Lake went three up, three down for seven innings in the first game, losing 10-0.

In the second game the Chiefs battled to keep the game close.

Derik LeFave started on the mound for the Chiefs and struck out two in 31/2 innings.

In the bottom of the second, Moses Lake put their first runner of the night on base when Chase Hunter was walked.

Two batters later, Adrian Villa lined up at the dish and singled to drive Hunter home for the Chiefs' first run of the double-header and a 1-0 lead. Villa was stranded on base when Bryan Sanchez was thrown out at first to end the inning.

Richland made up ground to take the lead in the top of the third loading the bases and scoring three runs on a single at bat before Moses Lake's defense earned three consecutive outs to end the inning.

The Bombers continued their scoring run in the top of the fourth, earning four more runs to make it 7-1.

Richland earned their last two runs in the top of the sixth before Moses Lake started swinging the bats and scoring runners in the bottom of the inning.

"The team was outstanding," said head coach Ed McNamara. "Everybody had a part."

Curran Redal singled for the Chiefs to lead off the inning and was advanced by a sacrifice bunt by Pablo Correa.

Correa's sacrifice was followed by a bunt single by Josh Munoz and Redal crossed the plate after a single by Zane Bator.

The scoring continued with Daniel Collins hitting a double to drive Munoz home and putting Bator in position to score on third.

Matt Valdez made it 9-5 with a double that sent Bator and Collins home.

Villa got on at first after a catcher error on a full count. Valdez advanced to third during the same at bat.

Sanchez was walked on the next at bat to load the bases for Moses Lake.

Jacob Lacelle struck out but was able to score Valdez during his at bat.

Redal lined up for his second at bat of the inning with two runners on and two outs. He drove a line single to left field that sent Villa home.

Correa was tagged out at first on the next at bat to end the inning.

In the final inning, Richland's lead off batter was tagged out at first and Redal struck out two to get the Chiefs back to the dish.

Munoz was walked in the lead off spot for the Chiefs in the bottom of the seventh and was advanced to third by singles from Bator and Collins.

Valdez drove Munoz home on a single to make it 9-7.

Moses Lake's final run of the night came off of a single by Sanchez and sent Collins home for the 9-8 final score.

Valdez went 2-for-2 with three RBIs to lead the team. Redal was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Bator was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Villa was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Collins was 1-for-2 with two runs. Munoz was 2-for-4 with two runs.
