Ivora M. Shafer

Ivora M. Shafer, a 55 year resident of Moses Lake, passed away March 21. She was born Dec. 25, 1921 in Roseland, Neb., the sixth of eight children born to Ivor and Edythe (Brown) Jones.

Ivora attended a one-room schoolhouse near Doniphan, Neb. for eight years. She moved to Idaho with her parents, graduating from Nampa High School in 1939. Following graduation, she moved to Santa Monica, Calf. and worked for Douglas Aircraft. In 1951 she married Pat R. Shafer in Weiser, Idaho. Pat and Ivora moved to Moses Lake that same year where they have resided since.

Ivora worked at the Moses Lake Post Office for 18 years, retiring in 1972. She was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Moses Lake.

Survivors include her husband, Pat; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Ron Groff, Moses Lake; grandson and wife, Eric and June Groff; great grandchildren, Natasha and Quinten Groff; sister, Jeannine Hogge of Nampa, Idaho and brother, Gayle Jones of Greensboro, Georgia. Ivora is preceded in death by her parents, sister Lela and four brothers: Kenneth, Lyle, Loel, and Bill.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 25 at 11 a.m. at Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell, Idaho. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 29 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Moses Lake. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel of Memories, Inc.
